The Corsair 4000D was widely considered one of the best PC cases available. The new 4000D RS builds on that foundation, offering improved usability and flexibility for around $20 more. While it retains excellent cooling and component support, it trades some of the original’s simplicity for a more feature-rich, enthusiast-focused design.
Enhanced Build Experience
The 4000D RS shines in its build experience. Corsair has implemented movable plates and panels that significantly ease installation and cable management. A removable power supply tray and motherboard support panel allow for pre-assembly outside the case, minimizing cramped maneuvering. The design prioritizes accessibility, even for complex builds.
However, this refinement comes at a cost. Some components, like the vertical GPU bracket, feel poorly placed, hindering easy access to mounting screws. The abundance of extra plates and screws also reduces cable management space behind the motherboard. Corsair’s aesthetic choices, like the aggressive machining on the front panel, may not appeal to everyone.
Superior Cooling Performance
Cooling remains a key strength. The case supports a wide range of configurations, including top-mounted AIO radiators, side-mounted intake fans, and front-mounted options. The included RS120 ARGB fans are a worthwhile addition. While airflow is excellent, the design sacrifices some acoustic dampening, resulting in noticeable fan noise under load.
Corsair’s “Infinirail” system, a movable fan mount, provides flexibility for different component sizes but introduces minor compatibility issues. Some radiators, even from Corsair itself, may not align perfectly with the mounting points. Despite this, the system remains secure and functional.
A Worthy Upgrade
Despite minor drawbacks, the Corsair 4000D RS is a top-tier case. Its improved usability, excellent cooling, and expanded component support make it ideal for both gamers and enthusiasts. While the original 4000D’s simplicity may be missed by some, the benefits of the RS model far outweigh the trade-offs.
The 4000D RS is a strong contender in the mid-range case market, offering a compelling combination of performance and convenience.
